ESCORT ANNOUNCES A BREAKTHROUGH RADAR AND LASER DETECTOR WITH SPEED AND LOCATION INTELLIGENCE
The PASSPORT 9500i
JANUARY 8, 2007 WEST CHESTER, OHIO - Further expanding its technological leadership in the radar and laser
detector industry, ESCORT Inc. announced today its first ever GPS-Powered speed and location intelligent radar and laser detector, the
all-new PASSPORT 9500i.
The PASSPORT 9500i's new revolutionary GPS-Powered feature, TrueLock™, solves the number one complaint of
detector users - false alerts. Incorporated into its design is a SiRF III GPS module, which allows the detector to know where it is and
how fast it is moving at all times. TrueLock™ allows the user to store a false alert in memory by location and specific frequency.
Once stored, the PASSPORT 9500i will not alert to this specific signal in this area ever again, but its sophisticated design provides an
alert if a second or third signal is present.
"TrueLock™ will change the entire radar detector market," said Tim Coomer, Vice President of
Marketing and Product Development. "Until now users have had to live with false alerts. Now they do not," added Coomer.
The PASSPORT 9500i also incorporates ESCORT's new "AutoSensitivity" mode, which varies the radar
performance based on the vehicle speed. At interstate speeds, the PASSPORT 9500i's radar receiving sensitivity increases automatically
to maximum sensitivity. At slower speeds, (parking lots, etc.) radar sensitivity is optimized to further reduce unwanted alerts.
Conventional Highway and City sensitivity modes are also included.
The PASSPORT 9500i also introduces a new "Mark Location" feature, allowing users to store a location for
future reference. "Known speed trap locations are everywhere. By having the ability to mark and label a location our customer's
will be reminded well in advance before they get there," added Coomer.
A new AutoVolume feature is also included, which automatically increases the alert volume level when the ambient
noise in the vehicle is high. This includes loud music, noisy passengers, or excessive wind noise when a convertible top is down. A new
voice alert option is also included, which helps the driver keep their eyes on the road and provide instant feedback when selecting
options.
In addition to ESCORT's standard bar-graph display, ExpertMeter™, which identifies the band and relative
signal strength on up to 8 signals simultaneously, and SpecDisplay™, which provides specific numeric frequency received, the
PASSPORT 9500i features a new SpeedAlert™ feature. In this mode, the PASSPORT 9500i will display the vehicle speed during the few
seconds of an alert. This allows the driver to quickly look in one place and determine if they need to adjust their speed.
The PASSPORT 9500i's radar sensitivity has been optimized to improve response time and accuracy including the
addition of Ku-band for European travelers. ESCORT's superior Laser circuitry has also been improved through the use of multiple
high-performance laser sensors and ESCORT's proprietary software.
The PASSPORT 9500i incorporates ESCORT's user-friendly Preferences, allowing the user to customize the detector for
their specific driving style. Preferences include: Power-On indication, SpeedAlert™ (on/off), Power-On sequence, Meter type,
AutoMute (on/off), AutoVolume (on/off), Speed Units (MPH/KPH), Voice alerts (on/off) and the ability to turn individual radar and laser
bands on or off. "This is particularly useful in areas where only one type of radar is used," added Coomer.
PASSPORT 9500i also includes ESCORT's unique and innovative 12-volt SmartCord. The SmartCord has a pilot light,
built-in alert lamp, and convenient mute button, right on the lighter plug. "It's perfect for larger vehicles where reaching the
detector on the windshield is a stretch. And for discreet night driving, users can simply put the detector in Dark mode, and use the
visual indicators on the SmartCord," said Coomer.
PASSPORT 9500i's styling has also been refined, including a black case and a nickel-plated keypad which is backlit
for easy access at night.
The PASSPORT 9500i includes a red ultra-bright text matrix display, integrated quick-release windshield mount, extra
suction cups, built-in ear phone jack, and a handy travel case.
The PASSPORT 9500i will be available directly from ESCORT in February. The retail price is $449.95. Consumers can
call ESCORT toll-free at 800-964-3138 for more information or to order.
ESCORT created the high-performance radar detector market in 1978, and has been issued more patents in the radar
detector field than all other manufacturers combined. ESCORT also manufactures the test-winning PASSPORT 8500 X50, Cordless SOLO S2 and
the PASSPORT SR7 and SRX custom-installed detectors.
